Benchmarking
Creating perceptual maps reflecting research conducted on driver options currently on the market. Gaps in certain quality combinations were noted. The concept should be easy to yield, so low weight and high comfort, as well as efficient and easy to understand.
Task Analysis
Highlighting the process of moving a stadium seat, one of the common jobs for an arena maintenance specialist. Pain points within the process were highlighted and considered for the rest of this project.
Milwaukee Design Language
I chose Milwaukee Tool as the brand for my driver because of Milwaukees reputation of powerful and reliable tools, which are both incredibly important for the unexpected, high-stakes jobs that arena maintenance workers encounter.
Analyzing Milwaukees form language on existing tools and noting repeated designs in shape, materiality, texture, and layering.
Initial Form Ideation
Sketch page reflecting model prototypes and branding selection. Concepts are based on the natural ergonomics of the hand. Forms are asymmetrical, directional, and streamlined to please the eye and invite users to interact with the tool. Milwaukee was chosen due to their reputation of creating powerful, reliable tools
Final Direction
Combining ergonomic form with Milwaukee’s design language and CMF.

Modelmaking
a. (v1)a. (v2)c. (v2)d. (v1)d. (v2)e. (v1)e. (v2)Created 5 models based on my best sketch concepts and tested the ergonomics of them with my and my classmates hands. Then, created one revised model for each of the 5 concepts that better fit the hand. A common change on all models was increasing the size to account for thick work gloves and the powerful motor of the tool.

c. (v1)Final Concept
Speed from ideation on stick-grip and pistol-grip driver designs. Moved forward with stick-grip concepts due to flexibility of use and smaller profile - supporting use in tight spaces.
The redesigned electric screwdriver should cut down on hand strain over extended periods of use and have a small enough footprint to be easily used in tight stadium environments, such as under seats and between ceiling beams.
